Back in blighty…..

After 5 long weeks in Californian sunshine I’m back to the UK. I almost didn’t make it back after being booked onto an overcrowded flight on the way home. As I was about to be shipped off to a hotel for the night to wait for the next flight home a girl on a school trip who had decided it would be a good idea to take some recrrational drugs beforehand was carted off looking a little sorry for herself, so I got her seat! I wouldn’t have minded just one more day in California, but luckily I made it home just in time for a nice sun and surf filled weekend in Cornwall.

I apologise to all my readers for the lack of updates whilst I have been away. I have been crazy busy! The surf for my trip was all time, and I scored some of the best waves I’ve ever had along the Californian coastline. I also was very lucky to meet some great people and share some of the most amazing times of my life.  Sometimes travelling solo is such a breath of fresh air. I can’t wait for my next adventure.

I surfed a lot during my trip – the waves were good almost every day, and the water was warm. I even managed to rock out my short leg wetsuit for the majority of sessions! I think my surfing has improved, and I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and the competition circuit for 2012!

I was a bit apprehensive about coming back to Cornwall – preparing myself for some colder water than I have been used to as well as some different wave conditions. On my first day back at home I decided to man up and get in the ocean. It was a relatively nice day, with little wind and average surf conditions. Egged on by the local groms, I struggled into my 5mm winter wetsuit and paddled out feeling like  a whale. I got a couple waves and had an ok surf. Much to my surprise the water wasnt too bad temperature wise. We’ve had a very mild winter here in the south west and water temperatures are well above average for this time of year. The combination of this, and no wind actually makes surfing quite pleasent.

Today I braved the ocean again ( this time without my hood!) Once again I was surprised, and not cold in the slightest.  I am such a big girl when it comes to being cold and the no hood, no glove combo is very much welcome!!! Things can only get better, and with spring in the air it wont be long before my boots are off too!!!
