BLU day 1 – crantock, Newquay

Today was the first day if this weekend’s longboard contest at Crantock – a popular long boarding spot just outside of Newquay. We camped out in my van for the night in the lovely carpark at the bowgie inn with stunning views over crantock beach to make sure we weren’t late for the 8am check in. Allannah who works at my surf school also came along to todays contests so it was Kool to hang out with her outside of work. It’s not often we get the time to enjoy a day at the beach. After checking in at the comp the women’s heats weren’t on until later in the day over the higher tide. We decided to seek shelter in the sand dunes to escape the sand blasting from the strong onshore winds and set up a little camp in the dunes and enjoyed watching all the other heats. By the time the women’s heats had come around the tide was high, the wind was furiously strong and onshore and the waves even though fairly sizeable we’re choppy and mixed up. Conditions in my her were tough and the waves awkward to catch and ride. Luckily I progressed through and have made it to the semi finals which will be held tomorrow. Another night of van camping for me then!!!
