On my recent trip to California, besides catching some waves and bit of a tan the intention of my trip was mainly to pick up some new shred sticks from my favourite shapers.
Having surfed for the majority of my life I have certainly had plenty of opportunity to sample my fair share of boards…..longboard, shortboards, bodyboards, handplanes….etc etc.
I stopped by to the Stewart Surfboards shop in San Clemente to pick up one of my favourite contest boards. I have had several of these now and absolutely love them. They are lightweight and manoeuverable and I have surfed them at all kinds of breaks across the globe, and the go well in all types of wave.
After my last trip to California where I was lucky enough to pick up a custom traditional style log from Christenson Surfboards, I wanted to add a slightly different flavour of traditional board to my quiver. I stopped by the awesome new Bing Store in Leucadia (check it out if you’re ever in the area) and fell in love with a stunning LoveBird. It’s the perfect nose rider and will certainly go well in our English waves. Now I just need the surf to ease a little here so I can get out and ride it. As the waves were quite small whilst I was in California I had a great time picking up waves with ease at Cardiff Reef and San Onofre. I absolutely love this board and can’t wait to surf it at some of my favourite spots at home in Cornwall!!!
My quiver wouldn’t be complete without a new shortboard either, so I was stoked to pick up another custom Chemistry Surfboard from my favourite shapers in California. I’ve been getting boards from these guys now for over 5 years and their shaper just get better and better. My 5’7 shortboard is based loosely around a similar template to the new flyer model by channel islands. A bit shorter and fatter for catching waves with ease – ideal for our wave conditions here in Cornwall!
